Social bookmarking tools- '' My journey using Diigo ''

Diigo is a social bookmarking and annotation tool that enables people to highlight content, paraphrase texts and gives many more options. Diigo is an acronym that means ''digest for internet information, groups and other stuff''. During week 7,I have learnt about social bookmarking tools and how to use them as a future teacher and as a student. Diigo is beneficial for both teachers and students. Here are some of the challenges and benefits of using Diigo in the classroom :

Benefits of using Diigo in my classroom

• It is a free account.

• efficient, effective and reliable way to save and organize websites, online articles ,images and blog posts.

• As a teacher, Diigo will enable me to prepare my lesson plans using video training and share files ,links and websites to their lists on their respective accounts.

• Students can save relevant websites to their lists on their respective accounts.

• students can highlight important information right from the website.

• They can use virtual sticky notes to summarize key ideas on the website.

• The ''extension'' option allows the user to find links to files whenever one needs it.

• It allows students to categorize their website materials by titles, notes, keyword tags, lists and tags.

• Enhances the learning experience of students by encouraging group collaboration.

Drawbacks of using Diigo in my classroom

• Requires internet access. In order to be able to use Diigo's library ,lists etc. ,one must have a Wi-Fi- connection. Otherwise, it might be difficult to work with this social bookmarking tool.

• Collaboration requires cooperation and good group working skills.
